A plea For purging album review

So i picked up the new A Plea For Purging and i must say i am absolutely impressed. Though this is there third full length release it is the first album i've purchased. Now i wanted to pick up malevolence, their las album, i never did. I heard a few songs though and was blown away. So when i saw that the band had a new album out, i knew i'd be a fool to pass up on it again. Thealbum is intense and powerful from beginning to end. The opening track just rips as the guitars shred and squeal with crazy agression. And the vocals compliment the sound perfectly. The album continues to impress as the agression continues throughout. I was surprised toward the end when vocalist Andy Atkins began to really sing. It fit perfectly though like the climax of a great story. All in all great album. Killer beats and mad props to the drummer and bassist for killer rythms, insanely awesome guitar riffing and gutteral vocals make this album stand strong. A definite must own for anyone into hardcore and thrash metal. Props and blessings to A Plea For Purging for a great album.

Anchor Babies

Okay well I was reading the news the other day, and I believe that Arizona is going too far with this anti immigration crap. Okay I understand protect the borders, I understand question and arrest illegal immigrants. What I dont understand is denying children born in America birth certificates because their parents are illegal!

I mean really? What kind of crap is that? I mean, it only violates the U.S. Constitution. The constitution clearly states that any person born in the United States is automatically granted citizenship! So what the hell? That law no longer applies? The constitution is just an out dated reference?

Here is what the Govt. is saying. They are saying that illegal immigrants come across the border and have a baby. Once they have this baby, they have a reason to stay. The baby is called the anchor. Because this child is a U.S. citizen, parents have access to welfare and other benefits offered by the U.S. Because, of course, all Mexicans wanna do is cross the border and mooch off our government. They don't try to work, they don't harvest our fields, or mow our lawns, or clean our houses, right? They just crossed the border to have kids and live off of our hard earned cash. Ya right! Mexicans are some of the hardest working people out there. They do jobs that most Americans would never even consider! How many Americans will go out in 110 plus degree weather and work for 8 hours in the fields, for a few bucks an hour? How many Americans will drive around with no A/C all day in the same weather and cut lawns and trim hedges, again for a few bucks an hour? Not many that I know.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Arizona politicians are scared. They can longer push us around. They can no longer humiliate us as the minority. They are no longer the majority, they too are now part of the minority, and they are losing control. They are losing control and they are terrified that we are going to ruin their wonderful state because they can't control us. But guess what? We are the ones that have made this state. We are the backbone of this state. WE, Mexicanos, are the ones who will continue to keep this state alive because WE are the ones who are going to work. But we are not going to work for this state, we go to work for our families.

All this bill is doing is pissing off the Mexicans and Mexican Americans even more. We will not stand for this. We will not be discriminated against, nor will our children. We will stand strong and we will fight this bill along with every other stupid anti immigrant bill that Arizona politicians try to throw in our faces. We will not be beaten! You cannot hold us down!

Si Se Puede!

MTV Movie Awards 2010 review

So the MTV movie awards ended a little while ago, and i must say, they just seem to be getting worse and worse as the years have passed. Every year they reach a new low and the streak continued on this year. First lets talk about the host because i'm not even going to talk about the "red carpet" and the ghetto folks from "Jersey Shore". What ever happened to hosts that people know and recognize? Sarah Silverman, Justin Timberlake, Samuel L. Jackson. Granted not all the previous hosts were worth mentioning, (JT, Lindsay) at least we as a general audience know who they are.

This year they brought in Aziz Ansari (who the hell are you?) who i didn't even know existed until this weekend because of his 2 line bit part in Get Him to the Greek, (which is not worth the money by the way). He was never very funny and his lines seemed like someone in high school wrote his jokes for him.

On top of that, is MTV getting desperate? I mean not only did they bring in Aziz, but they resurrected a horrible role played by of all people Tom Cruise. Now i don't mean to bash on Tom Cruise because i loved him in Legend and Top Gun, but Les Grossman? Really? They didn't have any other actors or characters they could have portrayed or at least attempted to portray? If anything, they should have had Diddy continue his (terrible) role as Sergio from "The Greek." At least it would have fit with the times.

Another thing that i found hilarious and at the same time just disturbing was the fact that almost none of the presenters seemed like they wanted to be there. Everyone from the cast of Grown Ups to the Twilight clan seemed like they were having their wisdom teeth pulled the way they were reading the cues. I mean they couldn't have made it more obvious they were reading from cues, but they all sound like Ben Stein. Slow, monotone drones who obviously didn't want to be there. Aside from maybe Dwayne Johnson and Eva Mendez, no one seemed to be enjoying themselves, and i think the only reason they did was because Will Ferrell was hanging by a harness over their heads.

And that was only the first half of the show. The second half was pretty much more of the same with the exception of the new "categories." Why do they have to go and change the categories though? Whats wrong with best animated picture? Best fight scene? Best villain? Now they have best WTF moment, and biggest bad ass. What the hell is that? And that brings up another point. Why the hell was Angelina Jolie as "Salt" nominated for biggest bad ass when the movie "Salt" isn't even scheduled for release until July? If you don't believe me, go to www.whoissalt.com and you can see for yourself.

If things weren't bad enough though, Christina Aguilera had to come out and lip sync, (it was so obvious) a couple of her new songs. Now i've got nothing against Christina Aguilera. She is an amazing singer and a great talent. But i think she's been away for too long and she forgot where she came from. That or she's intimidated by Lady Gaga. Take a look at her newest video and you'll understand why. She is no longer a pop diva, or even a dirty diva. Now she looks like a wannabe gaga. She's trying to hard to be different and it shows in her music. Its more electronic, more rough, more new wave, and her outfits and dance moves are doing the same thing. Its not as hardcore or outrageous as Lady Gaga but its getting there. You can tell she's trying to compete.

The only bright lights in this dreadfully dark night though would have to be the performance by Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg of her new single "California Gurls" and the presentation of the Generations Award to Sandra Bullock. Katy Perry is a great singer and a great performer and its demonstrated wonderfully once again by her performance tonight. It was typical Katy Perry style, very bright and colorful, very bubble gum pop, but very sexy at the same time. As for Sandra Bullock, well, she's Sandra Bullock. She's come a very long way from "the net" and "speed" and she's just gotten better with age. She is well deserving of the award presented to her, and her kiss with Scarlett Johansson was icing on the cake.

Aside from this though, there was nothing worth watching at this award show unless you are one of teeny-bopper, vampire/werewolf obsessed masses. But i guess thats the majority of MTV viewers nowadays so oh well, i guess they are doing their job then aren't they? Til next time,

Mexican American

A couple of weeks ago I was talking to a coworker and he mentioned something he had heard on the radio. It had to do with Cinco de Mayo and an incident about a flag. Anyways what he had said was that a person called into a radio program and was told that they were American. They were not Mexican American, they were American. My coworker agreed with the comment and said he didn't understand how someone could be Mexican American, or African American or anything other than just American. Now I know this might be obvious at this point, but my coworker is white. He asked me if I was American or Mexican American. I told him I was Mexican American and here is why. I am a Mexican. My family is Mexican. And i'm not just talking race here either. I'm talking culture. My family still has their roots in Mexican culture. My wife's family still has their roots in Mexican culture. A lot of the things that we do and the way that we live our lives is because of the way our parents were raised and the way their parents were raised. Mexican. I celebrate Mexican Mother's Day. I celebrate Cinco de Mayo. I take pride in Mexican Independence Day. I wish to learn more about Mexican history and where my families come from. I want to learn to be more Mexican and to be proud to be Mexican. Does this mean that I'm not proud to be an American? Of course not! I love being an American as well. I've grown up surrounded by American culture as well. I'm proud to celebrate Independence day, and to know about the civil war, and the revolutionary war. I'm honored to say that my uncles served America in the military. America can be a great country. But i'm not going to give up my roots, my history for this country. I believe that is what is wrong with America. People come here and forget where they come from. They no longer know their history. They don't know where their ancestors came from aside from the fact that they came across on a boat. By losing our history we lose part of our identities. I won't let that happen. I will stand as a Mexican American and continue to show other people that their are two sides to where i come from. Will you?

last words

I wrote this a couple years ago and just found it so I thought i'd post it up here. Let me know what you think.

The day has come to bid farewell.  Farewell to all whom you have loved Farewell to your mothers and your fathers, and your husbands wives and children.  For today is the day that you go to war.  You go not because you want to, but you go because you must.  You go to protect those that you have bid farewell to, hoping that one day you shall return again to see them.  To turn and run is foolish.  You cannot escape the enemies that hunt you.  You cannot escape the fate that has called your name.  As you walk away you turn and take one last look at all that you are fighting for.  Your loved ones, your family, your friends.  Now take up your sword and your shield.  Place the iron helmet over your head and march.  March to war.  March to victory.  March to the quiet fate that has whispered your name.  What may come of this journey no one knows.  But do not fear.  For your fate has already been decided.

Hope you enjoy this.

Robin Hood (with a little bit of iron man)

Well I saw the new Robin Hood movie yesterday with my mom and my wife and these are my thoughts on it. This isn't going to be a summary of the movie and there is going to be a spoiler alert if you don't already understand the foundation of the film So if you don't want to know what happens stop reading. First off, in all honesty, i was not particularly interested to see this movie. I'm tired of remakes and i'm tired of fifty different interpretations of the same story. So with that in mind i was a bit skeptical about whether or not i was going to like this. Also i had my doubts about russell crowe. I'm not denying his acting abilities or anything like that because he is a talented actor but for me he didn't seem to fit the roll of robin hood. Obviously being the age that i am, robin hood for me was kevin costner (who by the way did an excellent job). Anyways, the movie started off rather slow for me. Or not slow, but confusing. It was hard to follow along and made little sense. As it continued on it started to unravel itself and make more sense, though in my eyes it was absolutely NOT the Robin Hood of the 90's or even of the Disney kind either. The story was all wrong, Robin only robbed from the King once, and he wasn't yet living in Sherwood forest. So at this point i'm thinking the only thing that makes this movie Robin Hood is the names of the characters and the setting in which it takes place. There was no hatred between Robin and the Sheriff of Nottingham, no robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, heck, Russell Crowe barely even picked up his bow but a few times throughout the movie. I was enjoying the movie but at the same time angered about the fact that it wasn't Robin Hood. Finally after the climactic battle towards the end of the film, the plot opened up and revealed that this isn't the story of Robin Hood, this is the story of how a man named Robin Longstride became Robin of the Hood, an outlaw and criminal banned from any city in England, specifically that of Nottingham. IT was a Prequel! I had no idea walking into the theater that this was a prequel! Had i known that, i may have enjoyed the movie a whole lot more! Leave it to the movie industry to make a movie about a man and then wait til the end of the flick to show you that this isn't his story but how he came to be the legend of lore.

On a side note, saw iron man 2 the weekend it came out. After standing in line for about an hour, it was totally worth it. My only major problems with it were 1: Don Cheadle. He's a great actor, but he doesn't fit the role of war machine. Terrence Howard would have done a much better job. And 2: there wasn't enough fighting. Yes there were some cool fight scenes and explosions and battles, but they weren't long enough and they were all at the end of the movie. Then again, the story was about tony stark's internal struggle to be iron man and still live. The best part of iron man 2 though was the secret scene after the credits. I won't spoil it completely, but if you're not a comic book fan, or don't know comics very well then go home and google God of Thunder and that may help you understand that last scene. I'm so excited! Until next time
